Emotional brain training, by naming and reflection
Jälki is not a mood tracker. It is a short daily practice in two halves: catch the feeling in one tap while it is happening, then sit down later and work out why it happened. The training is in the naming — and in the returning.
The loop: pin, name, reflect, notice
1Pin
One tap in the moment — a colour, an emoji, or your voice. One to three seconds, no writing, no scoring. The point is to catch the moment before it edits itself.
2Name
Later, put a word on it. Not “bad” — miffed, exposed, petty, hollow. A precise word is what makes the feeling handleable instead of atmospheric.
3Reflect
In the evening, sit with the day's pins and answer a few guided questions. What happened just before? What size did it feel, and what size does it look now?
4Notice
Over weeks, the recurring shapes surface — which shades keep returning, which triggers repeat, and what they usually turn into by nightfall.
Why this trains anything
Naming is the training
Most feeling gets logged as “fine”, “off”, or “stressed” — words vague enough to survive anything. Working through a wider vocabulary is the exercise itself: the shade you pick forces a distinction, and the distinction is what you learn from.
The gap between the moment and the meaning
In the moment you have almost no capacity for analysis, so Jälki asks for almost nothing: one tap. The understanding happens later, when the day is over and you can look at the pin without being inside it.
Evidence, not intuition
A single feeling explains nothing. Twenty pins over three weeks, each with what happened just before, is where a pattern is actually visible — and every pattern Jälki surfaces points back at the pins it came from, so you can disagree with it.
Start with the wheel
The quickest way in is the vocabulary. The feelings wheel is free, needs no profile, and holds eighty-seven shades across eight families — tap a colour, and the word appears.
Open the feelings wheelWhat Jälki deliberately doesn’t do
- —No streak guilt, no scores, no “you missed a day” nudges.
- —No mood grade out of ten standing in for a word.
- —No advice engine telling you what your feeling means.
- —No holding your own words hostage — Trace stays free forever.
If you can’t afford a paid tier
Cost shouldn’t decide who gets to understand their own feelings. These invite codes open the paid levels for free, indefinitely — no card, no expiry. Redeem one on the Pricing page under “Have a code?”.
